Volcano Village
Nestled in the heart of a quaint community of 2,500 residents, Volcano Village initially developed to support park staff. Now, it's renowned for its vibrant artist culture and charming village ambiance.
Temperature and Climate
Located at Kilauea’s Summit, 4,000 feet (1,232 meters) above sea level, the area enjoys cooler temperatures year-round. Expect highs of 60-80°F (15-26°C) and lows around 50°F (11°C), with over 100 inches (254 cm) of rain annually. Be prepared for variable weather, with frequent showers and rapid temperature changes.
Clothing
Pack for cooler weather and frequent rain. Nearly every day features a sunny spell followed by showers. Dress in layers, and bring water, a sweatshirt or light jacket, hiking shoes, and a hat. Nights can get quite chilly, and the Jaggar Museum gift shop probably thrives on sweatshirt sales!

Volcano Art Center
A cultural hub offering guided rainforest walks on Monday mornings, workshops, art classes, and various performances, openings, and readings. The Art Center also runs a gift shop within Volcano House Hotel inside the Park. Check their calendar for the latest events.
Volcano Garden Arts Gallery and Performing Arts Center
Located at the historic Hopper Estate, this center features gardens, an art gallery, artist studios, and Café Ono, specializing in vegetarian cuisine.

Pu’u Maka’ala Natural Area Reserve
Explore over 18,000 acres of old-growth fern and Ohia forest. Directions: From Hwy. 11 in Volcano Village, turn north on Wright Road, continue past neighborhood roads, then take a right on Ama’ūma’u Road. Follow until the pavement ends at a small turn-around. Park off-road if in a 2WD vehicle; continue for 0.25 miles to the reserve entrance if in a 4WD.
